History

Armenian Karate Federation was founded in 1988. The founder and president of the federation was Grigor Mikayelyan (Shihan, 8th dan), who was the president until March of 2019.

In 1993 Armenian Karate Federation became a member of the World Karate Federation (WKF) and today is the only representative of the WKF in Armenia, has the right to participate in all official WKF tournaments, world championships and continental championships (Armenian Karate Federation in also a member of European Karate Federation – EKF).

WKF karate is also recognized as an Olympic sport, therefore only the Armenian Karate Federation represents Olympic karate in Armenia.

In March 2019, Vazgen Harutyunyan, the former vice-president of the federation, was elected the president of the Armenian Karate Federation.

The General Secretary of the Federation is Karen Vardanyan.

The Armenian Karate Federation includes 29 member organizations.
